Ascension From Hell

Leaving the confines of academic walls is an act of resistance

In the original piece by Gustav Doré, Lucifer is envisioned here falling from heaven. This version is vertically flipped so it showed Lucifer ascending from “heaven” as academics perceive “academia.” Lucifer/Satan is centered. He’s in the middle of transforming so he has a manlike body but his angelic wings are more pointed like that of a dragon.
Public Domain: Vertically flipped image of Gustave Doré ‘s (1866) illustration for John Milton’s ‘Paradise Lost.’ In the original piece by Doré, Lucifer is envisioned falling from heaven. This version is vertically flipped to present Lucifer ascending from “heaven” (or as I call it ‘academic hell’).
